IBM is building the worlds first universal quantum computer “IBM Q” for business and science offering free access to a real quantum computer via our cloud platform for everyone. There are a lot of myths regarding what quantum computing technology will provide and also a fear of the negative impacts it could have on security and safety. While quantum computing is totally different from classical computing regarding technology and programming, there is a need for a new set of skills and people to run and integrate quantum technology within traditional IT infrastructure. The presentation will show the current state of technology regarding quantum technology and IBM Q including programming models and use case scenarios, especially in regards to chemical environments or optimization problem arena.

The seminar will also touch on the topic of how quantum technology will be integrated in classical IT infrastructures and how this will change the world of computing in the future. Ingolf Wittmann, technical director & leader of high performance computing IBM Europe, will be leading the presentation.

Mr. Ingolf Wittmann’s Bio:

Ingolf joined IBM in 1982 as a work student in Germany. After finishing university with a master in computer science and business administration he started his professional career as a Unix system engineer at Nixdorf. In 1990 he rejoined IBM starting as an AIX marketeer following the IBM classical career as Unix sales representative, solutions sales manager, and different national and international technical leadership positions. Ingolf is now the Technical Director & Leader of High Performance Computing Europe. He is actually also building and running the IBM Q Evangelist team in Europe. Ingolf led the IBM German Technical Leader Council from 2001-2006 and is a member of the Technical Leadership Team since 2007 and is responsible for the professional development xLoB in DACH. He has written books about AIX 4 and AIX 5L and is a regular IBM speaker for press and analysts regarding IT trends, technology and Open Source. Since 2007, Ingolf has been the chairman of the department “IT Infrastructure & Digital Office” in the German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM).
