ASC X9 Webinar – An Update on NIST Post-Quantum Cryptography Standardization

Description

As is well-known, a large-scale quantum computer would be able to break all widely-deployed public-key crypto systems in use today. In 2016, NIST announced a worldwide call for quantum-resistant public-key crypto algorithms to replace the ones that would be broken. In response, NIST received over 80 submissions to be considered for standardization.

Six years and three rounds later, NIST announced the first four algorithms that would be standardized to provide protection from quantum (and classical) attacks. Four algorithms are also still being assessed in a fourth round in regards to their security and performance. In this talk, Dustin Moody will give an update on the NIST Post-Quantum Crypto standardization process, covering the recent announcement of the selected algorithms and also what to expect in the near future.
